Aloe Blacc x Pharrell - "Love Is The Answer" + New 'Wake Me Up' EP
Wait! New Aloe Blacc changes everything. And by everything I mean, the significance of September 24th, 2013, my current feelings toward Pharrell and just the whole mood of this humpbacked drag of a we called Wednesday. In order: yesterday 9/24 while the world was bedazzled--and in some cases bamboozled--by the release of Drake's NWTS (and we were bugging over the concurrent LP releases of two bands formed right here on Okayplayer, namely Foreign Exchange & Tanya Morgan) Aloe Blacc quietly released a 4-track EP of new material. Pharrell gets a noticeable bump in the Eddie STATS opinion polls with this undeniable Stevie-inspired jam. I don't even care if somebody sends me a link to the Motown classic, paradise garage 12" or Korean youtube guitarist that directly inspired it--that still can't ruin the infectious at-ease created by this song, which is clearly Aloe at his best.
The other main takeway: Avicii (the EDM fashionista who tapped Aloe for his megahit that gave the EP its name) probably has mad points on this, yet he clearly signed off on that single driving a release to put dollars in the pocket of the guy who carried the single (and video) which makes me like him a whole lot better too, even though he clearly doesn't like people who live in the country or aren't runway models. It's pretty much an unstoppable mood-enhancer, in fact, which leads me to believe that the 2 remaining unheard joints on here are well worth a digital purchase strictly on faith.
