Pass The Popcorn: Sneak Peak At Andre 3000 As Jimi Hendrix In 'All Is By My Side'

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Fans get their first taste of Andre 3000's onscreen performance as Jimi Hendrix in director John Ridley's forthcoming biopic All Is By My Side. The sneak peak comes in the form of a short clip ahead of the film's upcoming U.S. premiere at the SXSW Film Festival this month, featuring Hendrix and Linda Keith (as played by Imogen Poots) in the midst of an intimate and subtly painful conversation. The film will finally see the light of day after a lot of red tape and controversy, including a lack of support from the Hendrix estate that ultimately prevented the filmmakers from using any of the legendary rocker's original songs. The result is a film without the requisite Hendrix classics that instead features covers of rock songs played by the guitarist during the era in which the film is set, before he had achieved international fame. The U.S. screening follows the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013. All Is By My Side is the latest offering from writer/director John Ridley following his screenplay for 12 Years A Slave, which is still fresh from a massive win at the Academy Awards. All Is By My Side has yet to receive a formal release date. The film hits the screen at the SXSW Film Festival on March 12th. Check out the clip below to preview the performance from Three Stacks. Stay tuned for more.
