Aretha Franklin Delivers An Explosive Cover Of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep"
The supreme Aretha Franklin just gave us our first taste of her forthcoming Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics LP with an explosive take on Adele's own powerhouse treatment "Rolling In The Deep." Queen Franklin puts forth a hefty reminder as to where the British soulstress got her model, masterfully tearing through the hit with a vocal that impresses just as much in 2014 as it did 1964, when her Billboard R&B chart debut arrived with the Runnin' Out Of Fools LP.
As we reported last week, Andre 3000 has been looped in to executive produce the album alongside perennial hit-maker and music scene mover & shaker Babyface. Adele is far from the only star seeing The Queen's voice reimagine her ballad, as the album will feature the the pioneer's reworks of classics from Etta James, Gladys Knight, The Supremes, Dinah Washington (who she paid tribute to early in her career) Chaka Kahn, Alicia Keys and more. You can hear 3 Stacks talking about working with the icon on his recent stint with Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Frannie Kelley on NPR's Microphone Check. Hear the legendary Aretha Franklin come full-circle and cover Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" below. You can preorder the album via iTunes today ahead of its October 21 release.
