Pass The Popcorn: Azealia Banks, Common, Jill Scott + More To Star In New RZA-Directed Film 'Coco'
In between throwing shade on Twitter and releasing new music, Azealia Banks will be trying her hand at the weird and wild world of film. The Harlem-bed rapstress was signed on to star in the latest big screen project from the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, who will be directing a new feature film called Coco, where an aspiring rapper (Banks) foregoes her dreams of rap-game notoriety to fulfill her parents' wishes of getting a college degree. But it's in the thralls of her collegiate career that she realizes the true power of the spoken word and rediscovers her passion for the game. The film Coco is heading to production and will apparently also star Common, Miss Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint, Hana Mae Lee and others, yet to be named. So yeah, kind of an 8 Mile rags-to-rap narrative with femme fatale twist, hopefully shining some light on the added hardships of the woman's path to hip-hop glory in the age of cultural appropriation being at an all-time high, which Banks has spoken in great detail on in some of her more infamous interviews and internet rantings. No release date has been set for the film, but you can be sure we'll have the details for you as they roll out.
