BADBADNOTGOOD- "Kaleidoscope" (Kaytranada Flip)
Please excuse the late pass. Somehow we missed the fact that Kaytranada decided he was going to take on his fellow Canadian pioneers BADBADNOTGOOD's punk-funkery and flip it on its damn ear with his choice rework of "Kaleidoscope." This thing moves from menacing to mellifluous with a dark organ opening the arrangement before hitting a swirl of looping rhodes licks and a swinging housey shuffle that bleeds Kaytra's electric bounce steez through and through.
The new sonic marks yet another formidable flip from the producer who seems he can do no wrong these days (following the hazy specimen that was the Mick Jenkins-graced joint "Rain") and a nice change of pace from what the rugged and raw the trio has been putting forth. Last week found them letting loose on a seismic Wu-certified collaboration with the almighty Ghostface Killahon "Gunshowers," our first taste of their forthcoming Sour Soul LP with the Shaolin giant, which will be available for the heads on February 17th via Lex Records. While you salivate with excitement for that epic link-up, welcome in the weekend with Kaytranada's righteous remix of BADBADNOTGOOD's "Kaleidoscope" and make it yours for free below.
