Lean On Him: D'Angelo, Ledisi, Gregory Porter + More Set For Star-Studded Bill Withers Tribute At Carnegie Hall
In our neck of the woods, Bill Withers' name is one that doesn't just recall the countless soul standards he's blessed the canon with, but the very moments, places and times we first heard his burly voice. And while this generation of artists certainly owes the world to his songwriting genius, Carnegie Hall will soon play host to a massive, star-studded tributary performance dedicated to Withers, tapping some of the greatest voices, new, old and timeless for the exclusive affair, presented by Michael Dorf and directed Greg Phillinganes (a legend in his own right, having worked extensively with both Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.)
This year's revue features modern-day greats like D'Angelo, Gregory PorterandLedisi, as well as Michael McDonald, Aloe Blacc (who recently curated a discussion with Withers at the 2015 ASCAP Expo) Ed Sheeran, Sheryl Crow, Amos Lee and a slew of others, all carrying the torch for the incomparable talent that is the West Virginia-born soul-music behemoth. If you were in attendance for Dorf's past tributes for David Byrnes and Prince before that, than you already know just how deep they'll go and just how perfect Carnegie Hall's stage is for the event. Lean On Him: A Tribute To Bill Withers At Carnegie Hall takes place on October 1st with tickets currently on sale via the link below. So grab your loved ones and come out for this very special dedication to living legend, who we hear just might be in attendance.
