Pioneering West Coast Rapper Bo$$ Needs Your Help For a Kidney Transplant

Bo$$ had two number-one singles and toured with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg in the early 1990s.

Earlier this month, friends and family of Lichelle Laws, better known as the former Def Jam West signee Bo$$, created a GoFundMe campaign. The campaign was created to cover the cost of a kidney transplant Laws is in desperate need of after suffering a major stroke and seizure in 2017. Laws suffers from renal disease, rendering her kidneys useless for processing toxins.

"We are trying to see if the family can get a specialized procedure for her," the campaign reads. "The procedure is costly and we wanted to reach out to her extended family, her friends and fans, to ask for assistance with helping her to be blessed with this procedure to help her to get back to her health. The funds are needed as soon as possible to set her up for the procedure."

Bo$$ was originally signed after DJ Quik noticed her talent in the early 1990s. Her debut album Born Gangstaz peaked at number three on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 1993. Two singles from the album, "Deeper" and "Recipe for a Hoe" hit number one on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks chart that year. Bo$$ was the first female artist signed to the label's west coast division.

Since her brief stint as a recording artist, Bo$$ has relocated to Dallas, Texas where she became a radio DJ. In 2001, she appeared on Krayzie Bone's Thug on Da Line album. Three years later, she released The Six Million Dollar Mixtape with Def Jef.

The campaign is seeking $15,000 for a procedure that would place her on the list for a kidney transplant, provided she receives a donor. At the time of publication, the campaign has already raised over $2,500 in donations.
