Previously Denied Parole, Bobby Shmurda May Now See Early Prison Release

According to new court documents, the Brooklyn rapper could be released as early as next month.

Bobby Shmurda could be getting out of prison earlier than expected.

According to TMZ, the rapper has reportedly been granted conditional release on February 23, 2021 from New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility. Shmurda’s current release date is December 21, 2021, the new date is roughly 10 months earlier.

The Time Allowance Committee made up of prison staff made the decision. Due to Shmurda’s behavior and participation in prison programs they decided to shorten his time incarcerated. If released, the rapper will be under parole supervision. Any bad behavior between now and February 23 could nullify the early conditional release date.

Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession in connection with what was alleged to be a leading role in the GS9 gang, per The New York Times.  The gang is an offshoot of the Crips in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. Shmurda was sentenced after accepting a deal to plead guilty to 4th-degree conspiracy and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possessions.

He was denied parole in September 2020 partially due to multiple violations while he was in prison. The violations included allegedly having a shank, fighting and drug possession. Yet, the latest news tells us he’s turned over a new leaf.

Last year, the rapper told the parole board that he has hopes of returning to the rap game. He also has shared he’d like to counsel children from neighborhoods similar to the one he grew up in.

In December, Brooklyn rapper Rowdy Rebel was released after spending six years in prison. We previously reported that before his sentence, he was arrested and charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. It's a well-known fact that in exchange for a plea deal Rowdy and Bobby Shmurda pleaded guilty and were sentenced to six to seven years.

Bobby Shmurda is currently being held at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York.
