Brian Eno To Curate 7-LP Fela Kuti Vinyl Box Set

Fela Kuti's massive discography is about to see yet another curator step in to guide the ears of the masses in Brian Enowho was the Afrobeat king's contemporary on the other side of the pond. Eno gained notoriety as a key player for Roxy Music, a producer/collaborator of The Talking Heads and one of the main purveyors of no wave in the Devo days. Knitting Factory Entertainment announced that Eno would be taking the reigns of curator (following Questlove and Ginger Baker) for their next box-set release and has already decided which albums will be included.

Even though this writer would like to see someone like Tony Allen lead the audible charge here (it would certainly keep up the "drummers know best" mentality) Eno seems to know his stuff and his selection for the set shows that in spades. London Scene (1971), Shakara (1972),Gentleman (1973), Afrodisiac (1973), Zombie (1976), Upside Down (1976), and I.T.T. (1980) are all to be included with a 12-page booklet, a foreword from Eno, lyrics and commentary from Afrobeat historian Chris May (AKA chief writer of the Afrobeat Diaries.) The 7 LP box set will be hitting shelves September 29th so get that wallet ready. You can watch Eno speak on his affinity for Fela below.
