Cardi B's 'Invasion Of Privacy' Is Certified Gold Thanks To One Technicality

Cardi B's debut album, Invasion Of Privacy already went gold in the US thanks to one technicality.

Within minutes of Cardi B's debut album Invasion Of Privacy releasing at midnight Friday, the project had already qualified for an RIAA Gold certification thanks to "Bodak Yellow."

The 25-year-old Bronx-bred emcee's debut Atlantic Records single, “Bodak Yellow" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart last September and is certified 5x Multi-Platinum (selling 5 million units) by the RIAA. According to a report in Forbes, 10 track units are equivalent to one album sale, which means Invasion of Privacy has moved 500,000 units off the strength of “Bodak Yellow” alone. That was enough to earn the album a Gold certification.

The units from "Bodak Yellow" will not be counted toward Invasion of Privacy's first-week sales total.

Still, the track was the catalyst to Cardi B becoming a household name. It sat at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for two weeks before dethroning Taylor Swift's"Look What You Made Me Do." Cardi B's three-week run on top of the chart set a new record for solo female rappers while simultaneously beating an old record. With this feat, Cardi became the second female rapper in history to score a solo No. 1 hit on the chart, after Lauryn Hillfirst accomplished this in 1998 with "Doo Wop (That Thing)."The former reality tv star also just earned another Platinum certification for “Bartier Cardi,” which peaked at No. 14.

Cardi’s Invasion of Privacy is still expected to perform just fine in its first week, with or without the "Bodack Yellow" boost.
