In his simple and gorgeous new video for "Can't Do Without You," Canadian electronic artist Caribou has captured true nostalgic joy. The clip, shot in soothing slow motion, tells the short story of a boy running through the woods, playfully chased by a massive, colorful fish. As the track's confessional 8 bar loop cycles and builds toward a beautiful peak (we'll give you just one guess as to what the lyrics are), the youngster seems to gain control of the imaginary animal for a moment, and holds it delicately suspended in place before sending it off into the sky. Simple, earnest, and full of pleasing hues, the clip recalls warm summer afternoons and the innocence of being a child at play. It's four minutes of giddy play, imagination, and letting go. Caribou's message of longing fits perfectly with this one.
"Can't Do Without You" appeared on Caribou's fantastic 2014 release Our Love, a record full of rich electronic tracks that cracked many year-end best lists, and for good reason.
