Chance The Rapper is an independent artist.
Or is he?
Chance's independence has been one of the biggest questions swirling around the rapper. Because, while yes, Chance isn't signed to a record label (we think) he does have some kind of deal or working relationship with Apple, one of the biggest companies in the world.
Chance released his last project, Coloring Book, as an exclusive on Apple Music for two weeks, before he put it on his Soundcloud. There are many Chance Truthers out there, one being rapper Joe Budden, who has frequently talked about this subject many times on his show, I'll Name This Podcast Later.
So Chance made efforts to put the murmurs to rest. In a series of tweets, the Chicago rapper revealed the details of his deal with Apple.
Look at what Chance said:
“I feel like if I didnt clear it up people would keep trying to discredit all the work we did to make Coloring Book what it became https://t.co/05v81I38ur”— Chance The Rapper (@Chance The Rapper) 1489772299
“I think artist can gain a lot from the streaming wars as long as they remain in control of their own product. https://t.co/6agVO3uIdf”— Chance The Rapper (@Chance The Rapper) 1489772388
“I just wanna remain transparent. Folks out there without a deal need to know they're doing everything right just keep at it. https://t.co/5udstMPX62”— Chance The Rapper (@Chance The Rapper) 1489772501
“If you come across oprtunities to work with good people, pick up cash and keep your integrity I say Do It https://t.co/yF0gBPkLhY”— Chance The Rapper (@Chance The Rapper) 1489772662
We're sure that this will set off a new series of debates.
