Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover comes up strong with the dulcet new offering "Sober" off his forthcoming stnmtn/kauai mixtape. After all the claims of superlative honors, here's the side of Bino we've all been looking to develop; the hazy, falsetto-soaked crooner that we saw shades of on Because The Internet. This new joint glides through the pristine pop prism on the back of bouncy, bubblegum bass and a hook that recalls some of Bino's most cherished moments, blending the masterful melancholy of Frank with a take on a blue-eyed and lo-fi r&b scheme that recalls Tame Impala or Ariel Pink's catchier numbers.
Glover has been hard at work on his unofficial follow-up to Because The Internet (an album this writer has long preached the sonic fortitude of) announcing his stnmtn/kauai tape just a few weeks ago under the Gangsta Grillz camp. It will apparently feature Jaden Smith in some shape or another, which makes it about as unconventinal of GG tape as you can imagine, but we ain't mad. Someone's gotta diversify over there. The new tape has yet to receive a proper drop date, but you know where to find it when it does. Listen to "Sober" below and get ready for Gambino make a proper new entry in the weeks and months to come.
