Chromeo- "Sexy Socialite"
Brooklyn's resident tandem-o-funkateers Chromeo just dropped another glitzy groove in "Sexy Socialite," the second single off their upcoming LP White Women. The follow up to last month's "Over Your Shoulder" is one part Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and one part Hall & Oates (technically four parts, but the arithmetic of funk gets kind of hazy right?) making a wholly refined and sophisticated 130 BPM rocker that should be on your workout mix and the score to the next Mr. Oizo directed film all the same (though I'm sure he'll probably just handle that.) Along with its album-mate, it boasts a totally escalated sense of composition in the hook, the synth lines, the drum programing and the vocals, indicating to at least this writer that these boys are taking their craft more seriously than ever before, and their songwriting bears the fruits.
As they ready the masses for the release of White Women, which will sport cameos from Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, Solange Knowles, Toro Y Moi, and LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney, we can safely expect more goodies from these torchbearers soon. If you've heard the first single off the album , you know they ain't messing around with this glam-funk revival ish. So go give "Sexy Socialite" a gander, and stay tuned for more details on the next album from Dave 1 and P-Thugg.
