Common x J. Period - "The Next Chapter (Still Love H.E.R.)"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Damn. J. Period really did unleash Common for the 2nd leak from his upcoming Rage Is Back mixtape--created to accompany Adam Mansbach's "Great American Graffiti Novel" of the same (purchase on iBookstore here)--which drops February 12th. Truth is, we didn't kow what to expect this time out; Black Thought going the full Kerouac over the beat from Nas' "N.Y. State Of Mind" is one of those lightning-strike moments you don't expect to ever be repeated. But if you were going to put another mixtape track on that level, Com Sense revisiting his classic "Used To Love H.E.R." narrative over the groove from Portishead's "Sour Times" might just be it. J. Period elaborates the on that K2 of trip-hop beats with an interesting flip of the original sample (Lalo Shifrin's "Danube Incident") and the Al Green drums from "Mahogany." All of which sets the table for Com to uncork one of his classic flows on this mixtape verse-style, including and okayplayerish nod to ATCQ and The Roots. Listen below via the premiere on Billboard and    watch this space for the next leak what's already shaping up to be the mixtape of the year!
