Cookin Soul x Nas - 'SoulMatic Instrumentals'
Celebrated Valencia based production outift Cookin Soul continues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nas' seminal Illmatic LP in a very special way with the release of the SoulMatic Instrumentals. The stellar collection of tracks lands as the legendary Queensbridge MC continues to tour in support of Nas: Time Is Illmatic - the Tribeca Films documentary from filmmakers One9 and Erik Parker that dissects his classic 1994 debut and the rich history behind it. The instrumental compilation follows the spring release of Cookin Soul's SoulMatic mixtape and offers fans fresh perspective on their profound respect for all of the moving parts of the landmark release, particularly the production. Cookin Soul explain their love for the original project as well as their intentions for the remixtape and break down the finer points of the goodies they have packed into this release:
In 2014, 20 years after its release, Illmatic is still considered as arguably the best hip-hop album of all times. Our intention when creating "Soulmatic" was not to just remix Illmatic album as such. Actually Soulmatic only contains 4 remixes from the original album... Also we have added a number of musical skits including comments, feelings and experiences from those who created the original album.
The "Cookin Soul" way to get the listener closer to that particular state of mind that led to the creation of such a classic.
