De La Soul Celebrates 25 Years With "Dilla Plugged In" + New Projects
Its been a quarter century since De La Soul's titanic 3 Feet High And Rising debut, giving us plenty of time to contemplate the Native Tongues trio's influence and legacy in the community. In a word, its immense. And to help remind us of why we hold them so near and dear to our hearts, De La dropped a commemorative track "Dilla Plugged In"; a proper treatment of an ethereal Dilla instrumental with DLS' thoughtful wordplay laced over the cerebral swing of The GOAT.
The track comes to us from Smell The DA.I.S.Y.; an impending all Dilla produced tape, begging us to "Legalize The Daisy Age." After a bit of a drought from the De La camp, that's not all they've got planned for the 25th anniversary of their debut. Premiem Soul On The Rocks is another tape in the works, however, this time all production is to be handled by a couple of other producers who don't mind each other's presence -- or competition-- Pete Rock and DJ Premier. You read that correctly. De La will drop two tapes in the coming months, one produced entirely by Dilla and the other produced by PR and Primo. And all on the heels of their forthcoming full-length LP You're Welcome. Its gonna be a busy roll-out for the 25th birthday of that seminal piece, but we're all arms and ears on this end. So help keep the love spinning by listening to "Dilla Plugged In" and be sure to stay tuned for more from De La Soul. Happy 25th fellas.
