Dec. 99th (Yasiin Bey & Ferrari Sheppard) Share New Single "Local Time"
The parties may have ended in L.A., but Yasiin Bey is still blazing tracks from S.A. Ever since the reclusive artiste announced that his final album would be arriving this year, we've been on straight Yasiin alert waiting on new transmissions from the Cape Town crusader. When the first arrived, we learned that Bey (FKA Mos Def) had been putting in plentiful work with longtime collaborator and frontline journalist, Ferrari Sheppard, who marked his production debut with "N.A.W." Since then, Sheppard has detailed his work with Yasiin as Dec. 99th and followed up with the more recent release, "Tall Sleeves."
Today, a new transmission arrives with "Local Time," finding Bey strutting his effortless transition from steel-toed MC to affectionate crooner over creeping, bass and trap isolation, no doubt provided by Sheppard, whose sonic suites show more depth with each and every outing. All of which is to say that Yasiin Bey's supposed retirement album is looking more and more like a Dec. 99th debut. Suppose we'll just have to wait and see, though. Hear the latest from Dec. 99th down below and hold tight for their next transmission.
