Dev Hynes Assaulted By Security At Lollapalooza
Dev Hynes stepped out this weekend as a vocal advocate of justice for Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis and the nation's most recent media firestorm, Staten Island victim Eric Garner. Just after the New York by way of London lo-fi funkonaut took to the stage to deliver a speech against racism and police brutality, Hynes and his girlfriend Samantha were apparently assaulted by the very individuals hired to protect them backstage. Hynes began tweeting out the altercation almost immediately, searching for any witnesses to the incident.
Though allegedly bruised and battered, both Samantha and Hynes appear to be in good shape and are pleading with anyone who may have witnessed the incident to share their firsthand account on the Chicago festival's Twitter and Facebook pages. However, it appears that the site has been deleting those accounts. So much for accountability. You can read Dev Hynes' full account of the altercation via twitter below. Obviously, we'd like to wish Dev and Samantha a complete recovery and hope there is a day when a black man who isn't Spike Lee can safely make a statement against the savagery and explicit racism of police forces across the country. Stay tuned as details roll-out.
