Dice Raw returns with the official video for "Animal" from his Jimmy's Back: The New Jim Crow LP, which arrived back in December via Rawlife/Soulspazm. The video from DREALITY Motion Pics is a black & white short constructed from clips of found footage depicting the horrors of the Jim Crow south that fueled the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, spawned the iconic "I Am A Man" picket signs from the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike and necessitated other unforgettably sobering demonstrations of solidarity during that era. The imagery of Dice's video is scored by his quirky, somewhat whimsical vocal. The creative direction of the piece replaces the lighthearted tone of his statements with a palpable gravity, transforming the ditty into a dirge that plays like a commentary on minstrelsy and the lingering difficulties associated with the black male experience in America. Check the footage below to watch the official video for "Animal." Purchase the Jimmy's Back: The New Jim Crow LP via iTunes. Purchase The Roots' ...and then you shoot your cousin LP via iTunes. Stay tuned for more from Dice Raw.
