DJ Premier Launches His Own Imprint, Shares Miguel Collaboration "2 LOVIN U"
30 years into his career, DJ Premier's world continues to expand. Today the boom-bap pioneer launches his own imprint with the release of an upbeat alternated take on Miguel's "Damned."
Prior to the release of the singer's 2016 album, Wildheart, the track was teased in an Instagram post, but landed as a bonus track on the album in a darker, power-chord-heavy configuration. In a press release, Preemo states “the snippet you heard on Miguel’s Instagram, mine is the original.” He goes on to explain: "Miguel and I had deadlines and we never got around to finishing it. We both really believed in this version of the track and we both felt very strongly that it needed to come out and be released as a single."
And so, "Damned" in a slick and sexy transformation (with all the Preemo scratches) arrives today as "2 LOVIN U," keeping the hook intact and building out with a brighter, cleaner six-string strut.
