DJ Preservation & Ka Link For A Powerful, Gloom-Drenched Video On "Day 0"

DJ Preservation most likely trips your radar on account of his past work behind the decks in support of mister Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey), but the NYC native has also been working hard to move his new venture, Mon Dieu Music, into the limelight. As that work continues, Preservation has brought forth "Day 0," a head-sculpting new piece of minimalist hip-hop from Brownsville Ka.

First thing's first--the song is dangerous. Over a menacing phaser swirl and monotone bass, Ka unravels tales of fear and loathing that come across like narrations of a noir film headed for a bloody ending. Preservation's track has a slice of John Carpenter to it--it's easy to picture an oncoming alien menace between the synthesizer's chirps and hi-hat's clink. The video, which was directed by Dr. Yen Lo, who is either a brilliant black & white-obsessed east coast indie filmmaker, a character from The Manchurian Candidate, or both. The MC and producer collided for an entire EP, 1200 B.C., which was released last year and can be ordered here, and "Day 0" will be featured on their upcoming release, Days With Dr. Yen Lo. You can bet that we'll be keeping you posted on that release as it draws nearer, so for now enjoy the visuals below and keep a lookout for more from DJ Preservation in the future.
