At long last, DOOMSTARKS hath arrived. The powerhouse collaboration between Ghostface Killah and MF Doom was previewed on "Ray Gun," Ghostface's Sour Soul album cut, but now the MC duo's first proper single for Adult Swim, dubbed "Lively Hood," is here. And it's an undeniable banger.
Produced by Doom himself, the cut is brief but merciless in its gnarled rhythms and machine-gun-pace verses from both Iron Man and the masked villain. Strings and horns seemingly copped from a Godzilla disaster scene provide a foundation over which the timeless badness of NYC is extolled. It's a skyscraper-sized warning to the rest of the hip-hop landscape: mess with the five boroughs and you might not live to tell the tale.
Yes, it's been a long, long time now that we've been waiting for the proper DOOMSTARKS collaboration album to drop, but Ghostface has claimed that it will indeed arrive in 2015. He and Doom will be performing at Miami's III Points festival next month
Listen to "Lively Hood" below, and head over to Adult Swim's website to cop yourself a free download. Then again, if tangible music is more your thing, a very limited number of 7" "Lively Hood" singles are also on sale here.
