Dr. Dre Scraps 'Detox', Confirms New LP 'Compton: A Soundtrack' Will Drop This Friday feat. Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott & More

Dr. Dre had allegedly been working on his Chronic 2001 follow-up, Detox, for the last 16 years; a number and an album whose anticipation and delay have matched, then exceeded even the mythical Black Messiah release. That is, of course, until yesterday morning when the legendary hit-maker took to his Beats 1 Radio show The Pharmacy to deliver the obituary for his killed-off Detox LP, confirming that another project was on the way. And while many of your were rightfully skeptical to hear Ice Cube announce a new Dre album this past week, the man himself has now put forth that Compton: The Soundtrack would be released this Friday, August 7th, featuring extensive guest spots from Kendrick Lamar and Anderson Paak, as well as one-off's from Eminem, Xzibit, Miss Jill Scott, BJ The Chicago Kid and too many more to fit into these few hundred words. But why take it from us? Hear Dr. Dre confirm his new album for yourselves down below (along with the full track-listing and cover art for the record) and preorder Compton: The Soundtrack on iTunes today.
