Stream Dr. Dre's New Album 'Compton' In Its Entirety
Now that the N.W.A.Straight Outta Compton biopic is about to be released, Dr. Dre has finally broken his studio silence and come forth with this first album in well over a decade. His new LP serves as the official soundtrack for the film and includes verses from Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, amongst others.
Compton is Dr, Dre's first release under his own name in almost 16 years, and serves as the unlikely but very welcome follow-up to 1999's masterpiece 2001. The album will be available for purchase on Friday August 6th, but was put up for advance streaming early by Apple Music, which also hosts Dre's new radio show The Pharmacy. In an interview on Apple earlier Thursday, Dre mused on his new piece of work, remarking that “The new artists I got like King Mez and Justus, these two guys actually came in and just grinded with me throughout the entire project.”
“As a matter of fact, most of the lyrics are written by us three. We would just go into the studio, put up the track and for some reason, the stars aligned and we killed it, man.” As previously reported, all of the royalty earnings from Compton will go towards building a new performing arts center in Compton itself.
Killed it Dre did, indeed. It's an especially great day to be a hip-hop fan. Listen to Compton in its entirety over at Apple Music.
