James Blake - "Retrograde" [Official Video]
Today James Blake released a video for "Retrograde," the first-released track off his long-awaited sophomore album Overgrown (Universal Republic). The hypnotic mini-movie, directed by Martin De Thurah is set in a world as mystically confusing as the long-lost TV series LOST, but far more gorgeously filmed. A motorcycle-riding, androgynous being witnesses a fiery celestial body falling down to earth...what happens next is up to interpretation – is he/she seeing ghosts of the past? Waiting in some floating purgatory? The last person alive on earth? To ascertain the meaning of song and video, we did mad searches on our internets. Then we thought: maybe James released the song in time with the heavens!? Or, maybe not. Then we found a clue.
While you're probably going to have to watch the video umpteen times to discern what's really going on – which is not a bad thing at all – keep this in mind as you watch:
