Emily King - "Distance" [Official Video] + Taylor McFerrin Collab "Decisions"

Emily King resurfaces with a double dose of sweetness, dropping some pop-art-esque visuals for her own latest offering "Distance" and teaming up with Taylor McFerrin to provide vocals for his dissonant electronic rocker "Decisions."  As the featured vocalist on both tracks, we get to observe two very different sides of the airy chanteuse. The first; a steam-rolling leading soulstress whose "Distance" instantly charts amongst the most impressive releases of the year with its big earthy bounce, making you want to strut straight down the street. The second; a more subversive cut with multi-instrumentalist McFerrin, where she can be found rounding out a wholly atmospheric production, full of lush synth-scapes and King's candied vocal.

The common thread: EK's iron-strong sense of vocal composition and knack for delivering smashing hooks. If nothing else, these two releases show us that her old-soul sensibilities are so intact that she can have one foot in those brooding organic soul ballads and the other in the melancholic left-field r&b game; akin to a Janelle Monáe or a SZA. King's "Decisions" is the first solo release we've been gifted in the nearly 4 years since her stellar Seven dropped like an anvil. So hopefully this is just the commencement of some sort of roll-out for her next standalone project. You won't have to wait that long to hear McFerrin's next project, as his Early Riser LP is making its way to digital shelves June 3rd via Brainfeeder.
