It appears the talents of Flying Lotus are as boundless as his creative interests. Earlier this year the BRAINFEEDER founder provided the score for the horror short FUCKKKYOUUU (which is now available for you to see for free.) Today he took to Twitter to announce that he had launched a film division of the label, which will handle his directorial debut, Royal, now slated to premiere at this year's Sundance NEXT festival as a collaboration with Salad Fingers animator David Firth. But it wasn't Eddie Alcazar's short that lit the spark. No, FlyLo got his inspiration for the new division from a gif of him and Thom Yorke DJing, which made the internet rounds back in the fall, as he puts it in a brief Twitter tangent (scroll down for that.)
Sundance NEXT runs the weekend of August 12th through 14th, tickets for which are available to purchase today. He also basically guaranteed a new project from Thundercat by year's end, presumably a full-length follow-up to 2015's The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam.
