While You Were Sleeping: Frank Ocean Unveils New Song "Memrise"
The days have been long and the nights even longer since Frank Ocean graced us with a new sonic suite. Seriously, it's been nearly 3 years since the saving grace of Odd Future's roster blessed us with the left-field defining Channel Orange . And while rumors of regime changes threatened to delay the long overdue follow-up even more, it seems a new piece is, in fact, on the horizon.
Last night, while we were all gorging ourselves with brined Turkey Day offerings, Frankie dropped off the new joint "Memrise" via his Tumblr page. This smokey and somewhat uneasy spook commences with the earmark click of a reel-to-reel beginning its spin (see "Start" and "End") giving way to a criminally short beachside lull, soaked in longing and lust. It's a supremely minimal concoction, but it's certainly a fitting consolation for those who just realized that Channel Orange had a bonus track that finds Ocean tapping into his Marvin-isms (like myself.) Lay your ears upon Frank Ocean's latest cut "Memrise" below and stay tuned for the goods on the Channel Orange follow-up.
"I memorized the wayward expressions
Never look down
Never let you see me down
I memorized the way no directions
Can I come over now
I’d like to stay a little while
I memorized your body exposed
I could fuck you all night long
From a memory alone
I never forget a face
Don’t go plastic on me
Nothing’s set in stone
You’re not dipped in gold
Dipped in gold
You can’t breathe if you’re dipped in gold
You are not on paper
You are not a copy
You’re so, you’re so..so thick, so thick"
