Audio Premiere: Andre Cymone- " Live Life" From His New LP 'The Stone'
OKP is honored to premiere Andre Cymone's "Live Life," his first solo release in over 25 years off the endlessly anticipated LP The Stone. It's a different tonal --and physical-- aesthetic from what we've come to expect from one of the architects of the purple sound--if you're not familiar with Mr. Cymone, we should mention at this point that he was Prince's bass sage before The Revolution's Brown Mark--but its got regal shades of lavender and blue all over it. "Live Life" is the more upbeat, energetic little brother of Prince's "The Cross"; a worthy rhythmic sibling with Andre's raspy, yet refined vocal treatments riding the acoustic blues of this thumper through and through.
Featured most prominently on the Purple Progenitor's debut For You, Cymone spent the latter portion of that decade writing and producing for Jody Watley, Lalah Hathaway and Pebbles. And so, for the first time since 1985's Prince-penned "The Dance Electric," Cymone cronies have something fresh to look forward to--something that seems poised to reintroduce the world to his brand of stripped-down Minneapolis blues. His comeback LP The Stone is due out February 18th and its sure to please new funk fanatics and seasoned Paisley vets alike. Go ahead and indulge in Andre Cymone's first offering in over 25 years below.
