Gary Clark Jr. Shares Life Notes Behind 'The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim' + Performs On NPR's World Cafe

Afropunk 2015: Lenny Kravitz Made His Brooklyn Debut Alongside GCJ, Kelela, Thundercat + More [Day 2 Photos + Recap]

By now, Gary Clark Jr.'s sophomore outing The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim should have had plenty of time to settle in. But even with its folky, bluesy (almost entirely self-performed) brilliance now on full-display, there's still so much to know and love about the release. A recent trip to NPR's World Cafe studios found the Texas bluesman delving into the many life tales that inspired the record, including a childhood household filled with soul music, a family that nurtured his love for music and performing and the many star-powered jam sessions that have influenced the method and madness, including, Eric ClaptonThe Rolling Stones and the late B.B. King. Included in the segment, is an intimate acoustic set where GCJ performs album standouts "Hold On," "Church," "The Healing" and this writer's personal favorite "Our Love." You can hear it all go down in the player below, but if you're looking for the all-the-way-live treatment, catch your boy on the road throughout the end of this year and well in the next. Grab your copy of Gary Clark Jr.'s The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim on iTunes today.
