'Hamilton' Actor, Brandon Victor Dixon, Explains Why "There's Nothing To Apologize For"
Last Friday night, the cast of Hamilton: The Musical ended their performance with a heartfelt and poignant cap. Led by actor Brandon Victor Dixon, the cast directly addressed a surprise guest: none other than Vice President-elect, Mike Pence.
They articulated the concerns of millions: hoping that despite a history of bigoted and xenophobic stances, that (actual president-elect) Pence, would represent not just the white supremacists that have spread hate in his name, but the millions of minorities that have been subject to it.
Today, Dixon took to CBS to clarify his address, which some have incomprehensibly taken as inherently anti-American, rejecting the notion that he or any member of that cast should apologize for vocalizing those concerns, sipping his tea as he dismisses President Cheeto's call for just that, championing the theater as a safe haven for political conversations no matter how uncomfortable they may be; the very premise underscoring Hamilton's unprecedented success.
Watch as Brandon Victor Dixon discusses Hamilton's address of vice president elect Mike Pence in the clip below. Unfortunately this will likely only make tickets that much more difficult to procure in the weeks ahead. But hey, there's always the lottery.
