'Hamilton' Takes Home The 2016 Pulitzer Prize For Drama

'Hamilton' Takes Home Pullitzer Prize

A massive congratulatory internet wave is due to the cast and crew of the blockbuster musical, Hamilton. Today, NYC's hottest ticket in town takes a turn towards impossible, as it has become only ninth musical in history to receive a Pulitzer Prize for drama. Anyone who's bore witness to the magic of this historical retelling of a founding father's origin story through the lens of nineties-leaning hip-hop knows it comes well earned.

The award comes as but latest accolade earned by the musical (written, produced and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda,) taking home a Grammy for its cast recording (executive produced by Questlove and Black Thought) this past February and surprising virtually no one in doing so. The win also marks a personal triumph for Miranda, who was once a finalist for the Pulitzer back in 2009 for In The Heights. And while the cash-in-hand stipend barely stacks up to the whopping $625,000 payout he received for winning the MacArthur Genius Grant, it serves as a perfect warm-up for the 2016 Tony Awards this June, where Hamilton and Miranda are expected to come up big, once again, as the most unanimously-adored production since The Book Of Mormon.
