Here's What Happened During Day One of the Tory Lanez Shooting Trial

Tory Lanez is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a dispute in Los Angeles. If convicted of all three counts, Lanez could face more than 22 years in prison

Monday, December 12th, was opening day of the trial against Tory Lanez. The rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete) in the foot after a dispute in Los Angeles. If convicted on all three counts, Peterson could face more than 22 years in prison

The trial, which is happening in LA, is expected to last around a week. And Pete is expected to take the stand.

Day one began with an appearance from protesters outside of the courtroom who were there in support of Pete. Prosecution and the defense both had the opportunity to make their opening remarks about what happened on the evening of July 12, 2020.

Here's what we know for sure: Pete, Peterson, Pete's ex-friend Kelsey Harris and Tory's bodyguard went to a party in the Hollywood Hills hosted by Kyle Jenner. They all left together. Around 4:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department received reports of gunshots from outside a home in the Hills. Police arrived on the scene and arrestedPeterson on a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, while Pete was bleeding from her feet.

As more information started to leak out, Meg would go public: she revealed gunshot wounds on her feet and told the world that Tory was the one who shot her.

During day one, prosecutors claimed the argument started inside the car after Pete criticized Tory's music. Meg allegedly walked out and Peterson fired five gunshots, striking Megan in both feet, while yelling "dance bitch."

According to prosecutors, Peterson walked towards Pete and Harris tried to intervene, he allegedly punched her and threw her to the ground. He demanded they both get in the car and that is when Harris texted the security guard saying Peterson shot Meg. (The text game about five minutes after residents called 911.)

The newest bit of information came when prosecutors revealed a voicemail Peterson left for Harris where he apologized profusely. It was also revealed that there was gunpowder on both Peterson and Harris (which prosecutors claim got on her after he assaulted her.)

The defense focused mostly on two key points: that Pete was drunk (which is why they got kicked out the party) and that she had a romantic relationship with Peterson and that was what sparked the interaction that led to the shooting.

The defense did not yet come with an explanation on how Pete got shot.
