Read a Book: Descend into Houston's Hip-Hop Underworld w/ 'Houston Rap'

Author Lance Scott Walker has teamed up with Sinecure Books and OG photographer Peter Beste to release Houston Rap, a history of, you guessed it, Houston's storied hip-hop culture. Walker and Beste spent eight years exploring the city and its rappity rap underworld, which--some might argue--has produced the most influential style in 21st century. Some of the most popular musicians and clothing lines have borrowed from said culture; Drake and A$AP Rocky have both made their best case to become honorary Houstonians, and even Forever XXI is trying to cash in on the word "trill."

The book profiles a slew of Houston's famous and infamous rap legends, such as Bun B, Z-Ro, Big Mike, K-Rino, Willie D, Lil' Troy, and Paul Wall, and reflects on the dearly departed: DJ Screw, Pimp C, and Big Hawk. Bun B himself even pops up to pen the book's foreword. Houston Rap's deluxe pre-order package is a sweet deal for the Houston rap geeks out there; it includes: A DJ Screw / Fat Pat 7" vinyl record, DJ Screw's All Screwed Up 2LP vinyl, Beste's incredibly candid photobook, Houston Rap Tapes, Fat Pat's Ghetto Dreams DVD, and a nifty Sinecure tote bag to stash all your goodies. The book is due out November 25th, but pre-orders will ship 10 days early.
