Pass The Popcorn: Issa Rae's 'Insecure' Gets Picked Up To Series By HBO
Issa Rae garnered public and critical admiration with her trailblazing workplace web-series The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. Since then she's gone on to claim accolades from Forbes, Rolling Stone, and People for being one of the most brightest and sharpest voices in comedy, conquering the digital landscape. And while that show has now been viewed over 20 million times, a new project from Rae and current Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore has been picked up for series by HBO.
Insecure will center around similar themes, charting a black woman's trials and tribulations through a white male dominated work force. The series will star Rae (who is also slated to co-executive produce) and Yvonne Orji, with Wilmore taking on the role of consultant for the new series due to his current involvement with The Nightly Show.
No premiere date has been set for Insecure just yet, but we anticipate a 2016 release. Keep your eyes and ears on us for updates, but in the meantime, go ahead and get familiar with Issa Rae's first introductory triumph The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl on YouTube today to get properly acquainted.
