J. Cole Performs "Be Free" Live On Letterman
Fresh off the release of his new 2014 Forest Hills Drive LP, J.Cole served up a performance of "Be Free" live on the Late Show with David Letterman. While the track was released well before his latest project and does not appear on the album, his decision to perform the single was a timely one given the ongoing protests sparked by the grand jury decisions in favor of the offending officers responsible for the killings of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. The track echoes Cole's concern for communities of color facing the threat of police brutality and other forms of oppression - an issue close to the rapper's heart that first found him making headlines when he joined protestors in Ferguson, Missouri following the death of Brown. Cole brings that passion to the stage with a heart-wrenching performance that includes a new verse. Check the footage below to watch the late-night performance of "Be Free."
