J. Period and Wale have teamed with GRAMMY U to present CIVIL RIGHTS RADIO: MUSIC AS POLITICS for the second installment of their Summer School series featuring USC Professor Josh Kun. The broadcast will be a mash of academic discussion and musical performance aimed at telling the story of civil rights radio; the panel will explore the etymology of modern protest music, tracing songs of resistance and revolution from the civil rights era through the politically charged boom of hip-hop's angst and into the continually fiery immigration debates. The program will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech and champion music as a major catalyst for social change by remixing your standard lecture with the sounds of Public Enemy, Fela Kuti, James Brown and Bob Dylan. Civil Rights Radio will be broadcasting live from Red Bull headquarters in Santa Monica tonight from 6:30 to 8:00 PM PST. The conversation will be streaming live via Google+ Hangout. Check the flyer above for details. Tune in and turn up the volume at 6:30 PM PST to watch the Civil Rights Radio live stream Google+ below.
