Pass The Popcorn: Django Unchained Trailer #3 + Nervous Questions

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

The newest trailer for Quentin Tarantino'sDjango Unchained starring Jamie Foxx hit the webs like a runaway blaxploitation x spaghetti western locomotive (would that be a soul food western?) just about 18 hours ago (see the previous version here). The new cut reveals some intriguing new twists on the basic premise (Foxx whipping--literally whipping, btw--his partner's ass, not to mention the line: "Kill white folks and they pay you for it? What's not to like?"). Yet the choice of Rick Ross to be the choral voice of black anger on the score and Samuel L. Jackson's whole character still leave us with some serious questions. I dunno maybe I'm just being picky because I know we have another black cowboy epic on the way (watch the trailer for They Die By Dawn here--more on that soon!) Watch below and read some of the nervous questions as formulated by our Okayafrica officemates after the jump. Django Unchained opens on Christmas Day.

1) Leonardo DiCaprio usually plays the nice, confused, tormented guy that you can’t help but feel sorry for. This time things are going to be very different, with DiCaprio cast as a sadistic Mississippi plantation owner. Pretty sure he’s trying the Denzel trick, to finally get that Academy Award.

2) We have an inkling Tarantino will use this as an opportunity to break his record for saying “dead nigger” at least as many times as possible in a 1 minute sequence, after setting the previous record in Pulp Fiction.
