OKP TV: Jarobi of ATCQ Answers "The Questions" On The Eve Of Tribe's "Final Shows" w/ Kanye West!
Tonight at the Barclay's center in Brooklyn, A Tribe Called Quest will join Kanye West on stage for the first of 4 shows comprising the New York leg of his celebrated #Yeezus tour. Those 2 appearances (the opening act for the other 2 dates is Kendrick Lamar) are not only a rare onstage reunion of arguably the most influential rap group of all time (certainly the trailblazers of the Okayplayer movement). They have also been described by Q-Tip as the group's final shows EVER. Now let's take this with a grain of salt; we have heard of other "final" Tribe shows (hell, remember when Jay Z "retired" from the rap game?). But then again, the way this Yeezus tour has been going I would not be surprised at all if Kanye not only had the last ATCQ show as his opening act but also cracked open the last dinosaur egg on earth and ate the last dinosaur yolk raw right on stage. Hold the grain of salt. So long story short, we decided to see if we could track down the 4 members of A Tribe Called Quest to get their feelings on the reunion/farewell shows--as well as the update on what they're doing individually and other random thoughts--for a special Tribe edition mini-series of "The Questions."
In spelling out A-T-C-Q, we start with"Sometimes Y"; Jarobi. Jarobi White is the mysterious 4th member of A Tribe Called Quest, who's actual verses on Tribe songs (even including other Native Tongues posse cuts) are few and far between, but who has been described as "the spirit of ATCQ" and "The Mystic Man." He is also an accomplished chef and 1/2 of the rap duo evitaN with fellow Native Tongues vet Dres of Black Sheep. We got the update on all those pursuits as well as confirming his presence for the 'final shows' going down tonight plus the other burning Jarobi-related ?uestions that keep us up at night: What's the craziest rumor you've heard about yourself post-Low End Theory? Have you ever eaten ham & eggs since rhyming on "Ham & Eggs" ? How does the restaurant game remind you of the rap game? What exactly does "making love to the mic like Jarobi on the phone" mean?
