Jay Rock Brings A Whole New Flow On "90059" ft. Lance Skiiwalker

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Jay Rock has made a space for himself within his West Coast TDE camp, one of smooth and understated certainty; Rock is the one that moves below radars, only to strike with practiced poise. Now, on his new single "90059" (his first home zip code growing up in Los Angeles), rock has turned out something...meaner.

Rock's lyrics have always been plenty hard, but on this new drop, which features the talents of Lance Skiiwalker, the MC barks, yells and snarls through the hook, assaulting the mic with urgency that some may not recognize if all they've ever done is kick back to "Money Trees Deuce." Lyrically, it's also a kind of onslaught--Rock strings together somber street images and holds nothing back. "Winos in the alley, nearly slumped over / Demons in they eyes, glassy, no Folgers / Wake up sober, kill you for a cold one / Snotty nosed rascals, big ratchet totters," he raps.

The last we heard from Jay Rock, he was getting hazy on "Gumbo," but now "90059" hits us with a clear purity of purpose. You can purchase the track on iTunes already, and listen to a stream below. As Jay Rock prepares his upcoming LP, stay tuned for more from the Watts man.
