Jay Z Will Help Bring Lin-Manuel Miranda's Play 'In the Heights' To The Big Screen
Before the world caught Hamilton fever, there was In the Heights.
In the Heights was Lin-Manuel Miranda's breakout play. And it is on its way to being a breakout movie. There are plans to bring the 2008 play to the big screen. Jay Zwill be one of six people who will produce the movie. Harvey Weinstein, from The Weinstein Company, made the announcement during an Oscars party on Sunday, according to Pagesix.
It's no secret that Jay is trying to conquer Hollywood. In September, news came out that Jay had signed a two-year film and TV deal with The Weinstein Company. Before that, Hov already had credits in movies like Top Fiveand Annie.
While an In the Heights movie is still in the early stages, the Jay Z-produced documentary The Kalief Browder Story will premiere on Wednesday, March 1st on SPIKE. The six-part documentary will tell the story of the 16-year-old who spent three years on Rikers Island without ever being convicted of a crime.
