Pass The Popcorn: Jennifer Hudson Plays Winnie Mandela In Forthcoming Biopic
Jennifer Hudson's Winnie Mandela biopic finally makes it's way to the big screen with a September 6th release date. The film produced by T.D. Jakes features Hudson in the lead role of Winnie Mandela - the ex-wife of former South African President Nelson Mandela (played by Terrence Howard). The film chronicles the life of the woman who helped lead the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa from youth into her marriage to Mandela and through his subsequent imprisonment; after Nelson Mandela received a life sentence in prison, Winnie Mandela was instrumental in campaigning for her husband's release and continuing the ground fight to abolish apartheid. The biopic filmed in 2010 is one of three films slated to feature the Oscar-winning singer and actress this fall. Jennifer Hudson will appear in a production of Black Nativity, slated to arrive in time for the holiday season with a November release. She will also star alongside Anthony Mackie and Jordin Sparks in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, which arrives in October.
