OKP TV: Jim James x The Roots Live In Brooklyn [Video Recap]
photos by Mel D. Cole
When the rest of the world slows to a crawl for summer, live music heats up. Case in point: Jim James and The Roots coming together for the ultimate park jam at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn last week, a little thing called State of the Union: An Evening of Collaborative Performances. Those lucky enough to be in attendance and weather the brief rain shower already know it was the kind of once-in-a-lifetime musical event that you save the poster from so you can not only tell your grandkids you were there but have proof when they doubt you. Long story short: the clouds parted, The Roots were in top form and lucky bastards in the audience got three concerts for the price of one: a Jim James solo show, a Roots show (nothing to cough at)--and that once in a lifetime thing I mentioned. If you don't believe me, watch the full Okayplayer TV video recap below and hit the link for more eyewitness accounts in the form of Mel D. Cole's breathtaking photo gallery. Ladies and gentlemen, The State of The Union is strong.
