Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Tell All Of The Purple Tales in RBMA Lecture

Along with the late Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are recognized as chief architects of what became the "Minneapolis Sound." Their production credits begin with The Time in the mid-to-late-seventies (the evolved, Morris Day-ified recalibration of their high school band, Flyte Tyme) and span every decade since, crafting chart-toppers for the likes of The S.O.S. Band, Cherrelle, and perhaps most notably, the incomparable Janet Jackson, to name just a few.

But with all that gold under their belts, the tales must be (and as you'll soon learn, certainly are) equally as compelling. Sitting with Chairman Mao for a Red Bull Music Academy lecture, the duo delved into their purple past and present, charting their Minneapolis roots, riding with and defying Prince, breaking away from his grasp and finding new inspiration in Janet, for whom they'd go onto make write classics for and sell millions with. Needless to say, if you fancy yourself anything of purple patron, this one's not to be missed.

Watch Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' delightfully insightful discussion down below to excavate all of the wisdom your hearts and minds can bear.
