New Joey Bada$$ Single "Perception Versus Reality" Leaks
Joey Bada$$ has shared a never-before-heard track, an old school-styled track entitled "Perception Versus Reality."
Over a densely-packed beat full of loops and reversals, Joey spits bar after bar about life growing up in Brooklyn. "Lions tigers and bears, hunters gather your spears / How the hell we gon' survive for the next 100 years," Bada$$ asks, ruminating on the rough prognosis that so many young city-dwellers face today. "I'm another misconception of reality / So when the po drop by he ain't gotta ask me / Bout the body that somebody caught last week / I ain't finna go downtown in no backseat / Cause perception is reality when black like me." There's no need for analysis in this case--Bada$$'s words are deft, his timing perfect, his aim right on point.
The track was originally leaked by Flying Lotus on his latest BBC Radio 1 Residency show, but despite numerous music outlets claiming that FlyLo produced the track himself, a recent tweet proves that assumption incorrect.
The recording currently circulating also cuts out abruptly, suggesting that this may not be Bada$$'s actual recording, but instead a radio rip of Lotus's BBC show. Regardless, the joint knocks in a way that recalls Illmatic-era Nas.
We last heard from Joey Bada$$ when he dropped a captivating new video for recent single "Like Me," a joint that was in fact produced by a famed name--the late great J Dilla. Listen to "Perception Versus Reality" below and pick up Joey Bada$$'s phenomenal debut LP B4.DA.$$ on iTunes here.
