The Balch Springs, Texas police officer who fatally shot 15-year-old Jordan Edwards has been fired, police announced a couple of hours ago.
The news was announced during a press conference where Police Chief Jonathan Haber also revealed the officer behind the shooting. His name is Roy Oliver and he was a six-year veteran of the force. Haber was brief with the details, only saying that Oliver violated department policies.
Lee Merritt, the attorney representing the Edwards family, released this statement after the news came out:

Edwards family couldn't put it any clearer by saying "there remains a long road ahead."
Edwards, who was a freshman in High School, was leaving a party with friends when he was shot through the passenger side window of the vehicle by Oliver. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office has ruled Edwards’ death as a homicide,
When the news first came out, police said the vehicle Edwards was in was "aggressively" backing up toward the officers. However, this was soon disproven when the police body cam video showed the vehicle driving away as Oliver fired his gun.
