Kali Uchis Strikes Modern Motown Gold w/ "Lottery"
Blessed Coast via Colombia soulstress Kali Uchishas enjoyed -- and earned -- quite a come-up over the last year. We first caught wind of her soul-strutting ways back when she was commissioned by Tyler The Creator for the warbly hook of his hazy one-off "Aunt Wang Syrup Theme Song." But that was far from the last we'd hear from her. Over the last six months we've been treated to nu-doo-wop stylings, spiked with a bit of Spanish soul (and even some dancehall) on cuts like "Know What I Want" and "All Or Nothing."
Today we're getting a whole other dose of those firmly rooted musical musings, this time around channelling the heavy-hearted and golden r&b of Hitsville on her latest cut "Lottery." It's our first taste of her forthcoming Por Vida EP, which will feature a handful of the West Coast's most cherished producers, snagging Dam-Funk, Kaytranada and the aforementioned creator they call Tyler. So there's plenty to look forward to from the lovely miss Kali Uchis, even though there doesn't appear to be a concrete date on the album just yet. Don't you fret, we'll be sure to have the details as they spring up. In the meantime, vibe-out to her latest cut "Lottery" below.
