Kanye West is officially on the California ballot. But instead of appearing as an option for president, he appeared as a vice-presidential candidate.
This discovery was picked up as mail-in ballots have started being sent out for the 2020 presidential election, according to TMZ. West reportedly appears under the American Independent Party alongside the Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente Guerra.
According to an additional report from TMZ released on Monday, AIP Vice Chairman Markham Robinson says that party leaders nominated West at their state convention back in August. The party made this decision in an attempt to hurt Joe Biden’s chances at winning the presidency. Robinson also added Kanye was the right pick due to his political views. The party believes he will snag votes from California Democrats and “Never Trump” Republicans.
Since the decision was made at the AIP convention, West also reportedly had no idea he’d appear as VP on the California ballot. De La Feunte was reportedly not happy about being unaware of West’s selection as his VP. Yet, since Kanye is appealing to the 18-25 demographic, he apparently is fine with it, since he hopes to do well in the polls. Roque doesn’t think he’ll win California, but he’s aiming for third place.
Take a picture of it and stand in disbelief that this is what the world has come to. No, but seriously, vote for who you want to vote for. A recent poll notes that Biden currently has about a 30-point lead over Trump in California, so West’s appearance on the ballot probably won't mean anything at all.
