Lauryn Hill Takes Another Turn On Nina Simone With "I've Got Life"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

As we draw ever-nearer to the global release date of What Happened, Miss Simone?, more and more aural gems from the film's companion soundtrack rain from the sky. Lauryn Hill plays a major role in the film's star-studded album, Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone, and now an entirely new (albeit incomplete) recording of her covering Nina Simone as surfaced. A stomping number entitled "I've Got Life," the track samples Simone's classic "Ain't Got No, I Got Life" and features Hill rapping at a fervent pace.

"I've Got Life" is the second "Lauryn Hill covers Nina Simone" treat we've received this week; Wednesday night saw Hill's take on "Feeling Good" make its way online, and never in a million years would have have expected to be so lucky to see lightning strike twice. What Happened, Miss Simone? will be released through Netflix next week (watch its trailer here). "I've Got Life" is a bold, uplifting track, a powder keg of Simone's lament and Lauryn Hill's defiant bars that explodes into a righteous flash, and while what we have at the moment isn't the full track (the snippet cuts out before verse two), listen to it below and mark your calendars for Nina Revisited--it drops July 10th.
